Ultraviolet mold prevention system

Ultraviolet light was originally used to treat tuberculosis. Today, it’s used to sterilize hospitals, some foods during processing, water and air. Germicidal lamps can also make your North America home’s environment healthier. A UV lamp can clean HVAC systems and improve the air quality in your home. It can wipe out mold, bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms within 10 seconds of contact.

This can bring relief to asthma and allergy sufferers, especially in hot, humid locations where mold and bacteria prosper. These lights may even help your HVAC system run longer, since they keep pieces clean.

One of the most effective ways of controlling mold inside of your air handler is the use of HVAC UV lights. Every spore of mold in-sight of the UV light is killed immediately.  This helps to increase your indoor air quality (IAQ) along with several other benefits:

  1. Reducing VOCs (volatile organic compounds)
  2. Keeping your coils clean
  3. Reduces odors in your household
  4. Improves the efficiency of your HVAC unit, thus reducing cost in electricity
  5. Reduces condensation in drain lines by preventing algae growth

There are two types of UV light installations for HVAC systems: coil and air sterilization. Air sterilization uses UV-C light to disinfect the air as it cycles through return ducts. The UV-C light enhances the reflective surfaces therefore enhancing efficiency. Coil sterilization is where UV-C lamps are placed to specifically target problem areas such as filters, condensation pans, and the cooling coils. Coil sterilization targets hard to reach seams and edges where microbial growth is more likely to happen.
